Japan to accede to Hague Convention on Child Abduction on 1st April 2014

The Japan Times reports that the Japanese government proposes to accede to the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction on 1st April 2014. 

The Diet approved the country's accession to the treaty last May and enacted legislation in June setting out the implementation procedures for the treaty.

A central authority will now be set up within the Foreign Ministry.
