Mears attacks 'institutional injustice' in the family courts
Martin Mears, a former President of the Law Society, believes that a culture of 'institutional injustice' pervades the family courts and that now 'it is surprising that any rich man marries at all.' This controversial viewpoint is put forward in a report published last week by Civitas, the civil society think-tank.
In the report Mears argues that the family courts have 'developed' to an extent 'amounting to virtual new legislation'. He also predicts that same-sex couples registering civil partnership will face the same culture when these relationships begin to breakdown.
