Child maintenance application fee: guidance updated on exemption for domestic violence victims

The guidance relating to exemptions from payment of the child maintenance application fee for victims of domestic violence has been updated. The updated guidance now states that witnessing the abuse of one's child by a current or previous partner, or by a member of one's own or one's partner's family, is itself a form of domestic violence.

From 30 June 2014 the Child Support Fees Regulations 2014 introduced an application fee of £20 for people who apply to use the Child Maintenance Service. Regulation 4(3) of the Fees Regulations provides an exemption from the £20 fee for an applicant who is a victim of domestic violence or abuse.
