CSA flexes its muscles
In an information sheet published last week by the Child Support Agency, the Agency highlighted the powers at its disposal to ensure the payment of child support due from non-resident parents.
For example, the agency is currently receiving payment direct from employers in respect of 160,000 parents. In the year to October 2006, it was granted 12,900 liability orders – a rise of 2,400 on the previous year. To date 23,000 parents subject to liability orders have had their cases pursued by private debt collectors. In the last year alone 400 parents have received immediate or suspended prison terms.
Further information about the powers available to the CSA can be accessed at http://www.csa.gov.uk/new/walkthrough/debts.asp
