Child Abductions up 20% compared with 2005
New figures obtained by The Guardian
The Guardian website has reported that there has been a significant increase in the number of child abductions compared with 2005 according to Government figures obtained by the newspaper under the Freedom of Information Act.
The reports states that there were 336 cases of child abduction reported to authorities in the UK in 2008 which represents an increase of 20% on 2005 figures. It goes on to say that more children were taken illegally to Pakistan than any other country (30 cases in 2008), followed by the USA (23), Ireland (22) and Spain (21). Other abduction hotspots included Australia, France and Egypt.
