Another heterosexual couple tests civil partnership law
OutRage! campaign prepares for legal challenge
A heterosexual couple from Bristol have joined the legal challenge being organised by OutRage!, the gay rights group, after their application for a civil partnership was refused.
Ian Goggin, 21, and Kristin Skarsholt, 22, applied in Bristol to register a civil partnership. The application was refused because the couple were not eligible under section 3 of the Civil Partnership Act 2004.
The couple, together with seven others (three other heterosexual couples and four same-sex couples who have been refused the right to marry), will now pursue a legal challenge on the basis that the existence of distinctive laws for heterosexual and same-sex couples is discriminatory.
