Divorce should be the province of law firms, says consumer report

Public interested in buying other legal services from High Street brands

A consumer survey, published in advance of the new regime governed by the Legal Services Act which comes into force on 6 October 2011, indicates a genuine interest from people to buy legal services from brands not commonly associated with that market.

However, the survey made it clear that divorce should best be avoided by non-legal specialists as 'the public seems intent on visiting a traditional firm for this most personal of services'. 83% of respondents would favour a law firm to handle their divorce work.

In other areas, Ralph Savage, managing director of RTS Media which carried out the survey, said:

"It is clear that consumers are ready to seek legal advice or buy packaged legal services from high street brands which they already know and trust, despite the fact that we are still months away from this being possible."
