Supervision Webinar Series
Family Law Skills & Practice- Developing professional skills for excellence in Family Law Practice is a new range of webinars designed to support practitioners in developing the interpersonal, reflective, and resilience-focused skills increasingly required in modern family law. The programme addresses the practical realities that arise beyond the legal framework, offering insights that strengthen professional judgement, enhance client care, and promote sustainable working practices.
The four-part webinar programme on Supervision, is designed to give family law practitioners a grounded understanding of the challenges affecting wellbeing in practice and the ways supervision can offer meaningful support. The webinars will be presented by Vanessa Gardiner, a family law supervisor providing reflective practice for family lawyers and legal professionals at Vanessa Gardiner Supervision.
This webinar series is for all professionals working in family law, at all levels and all points in their career, whether working in law firms, at the Bar or the Judiciary. It will explain what the risks and concerns are for those working in modern family law, introduce supervision and reflective practice and how it can help you to understand and support your own wellbeing as practitioners, develop healthy working practices and relationships with clients, colleagues and others we work with and to consider other available resources, including use of experts and organisations which can compliment regular supervision.

Focus on the risks to wellbeing within family law and introduce supervision
- Wellbeing concerns and challenges within the legal profession and family law.
- What is supervision and reflective practice?
- How can I receive it, who pays, and how does it work?
- The benefits of supervision/reflective practice for individuals, firms and chambers.
Webinar 2
Focus on Supervisees
- Talking about yourself in supervision and what you might be experiencing at work.
- What can I talk about including relationships (collegiate and management), workloads, boundaries, vulnerabilities, vicarious trauma
- Unexpected situations where supervision can support supervisees & personal circumstances
- How supervision can help you work through these challenges.
Webinar 3
Focus on Clients and Supervisee-Client relationships
- Addressing concerns over client relationship/dynamics
- Strategies for building/maintaining healthy communication
- Difficult client behaviour, including resistant behaviour, entrenchment, lack of safety
- How supervision can help you work through these challenges.
Webinar 4
How else can we support ourselves and clients to improve wellbeing and mental health within family law.
- Multi-disciplinary approach of utilising other experts including divorce coaches and how can they help legal professionals

Vanessa Gardiner
Vanessa Gardiner is a family law supervisor providing reflective practice for family lawyers and legal professionals at Vanessa Gardiner Supervision. I have been practising family law for over 18 years and am a collaborative lawyer at RWK Goodman. As a dedicated family lawyer I have experienced many ups and downs in my career and it was these experiences that led me to become a reflective practitioner to not only find healthy working practices for myself, rediscover my passion for family law and help others to navigate the challenges in our profession.
