Judgment published in first case concerning reporting of financial remedy proceedings by media

Clibbery v Allan principles applied

In July Family Law Week reported proceedings in which District Judge Hilary Bradley ordered the anonymisation of the parties and restrictions in the reporting of evidence in financial remedy proceedings before her despite arguments from the media that there was "serious public interest in the issues raised". The judgment in A v A has now been published on Family Law Week, with a summary by Sally Gore, and can be accessed here.

The district judge said that the 'balance' fell in favour of 'privacy being maintained' and ruled that details of the case could not be reported. It had been claimed that publicity about the case would embarrass the husband, damage his career and possibly put his life at risk.
