Education Select Committee resumes its fostering inquiry

Leading figures from children’s organisations questioned

The House of Commons Education Committee has resumed its fostering inquiry from the previous Parliament. On 13 October, the committee held a session focusing on the issue of placement stability and the appropriate matching of young people to foster carers, and also doscussed the different structural and delivery models which local authorities are currently implementing to deliver their children's services.

Witnesses included leading figures from children's organisations, organisations supporting foster carers and young people in care, and representatives of services which structure and deliver children's services.

The inquiry was launched by the previous Education Committee in October 2016, and has previously covered issues including the capacity of the foster care system, working conditions for foster carers, and the roles and relationships of local authority and independent foster care providers.
