Cafcass Plus pre-proceedings pilot enables earlier assessment of extended family

Guardian feature focuses on Lincolnshire pilot

The positive impact of Cafcass' work in pre-proceedings has been highlighted in a recent piece in The Guardian .  Cafcass Plus is a pilot in Lincolnshire that sees Cafcass involved with some families at an earlier stage, where a local authority is considering making an application for care proceedings.

Interviewing two parents that have been through the pilot, with different experiences, as well as HHJ Swindells QC and professionals from Lincolnshire County Council, the article examines how the pre-proceedings pilot in Lincoln has resulted in earlier assessments of extended family members and in some cases to safely divert away from care proceedings.

This coverage follows on from pilots in other parts of the country which have been noted for their success in diverting care cases away from court, helping to promote positive child-centred solutions, particularly a higher rate of placement with a child's extended family.
