New research published on Children Act section 17 accommodation

Difficulties of migrant families ‘not on the radar’ of policy makers

Hackney Community Law Centre and Hackney Migrant Centre have published research that they had commissioned on the quality of accommodation arranged for families with children under section 17 of the Children Act 1989 (used where accommodation cannot be secured for the family using Parts 6 or 7 of the Housing Act 1996).

HCLC and HMC decided to commission the research to highlight 'the severe housing difficulties faced by thousands of destitute migrant families who are simply not on the radar of political decision-makers, policy-makers or journalists'.

The 130 page report sets out a number of key findings and 26 recommendations for implementation by central and local government.
