Care applications received by Cafcass in September up 23% on a year ago
Applications received in last six months more than 20% up on 2015
In September 2016, Cafcass received a total of 1,216 care applications. This figure represents a 23% increase compared to those received in September 2015. This follows an increase, year-on-year, in August 2016 of 34%.
Applications to Cafcass for the last six months are 24% ahead of the corresponding period last year. Last month, in his View from the President's Chambers, Sir James Munby said that the family courts face a 'clear and imminent crisis' caused by the relentless increase in the number of care cases they must handle. He predicted that this would inevitably have a deleterious impact on the duration of care proceedings.
