Secure Tenancies (Victims of Domestic Abuse) Bill receives second reading

Legislation fulfils commitment to victims of domestic violence

The Secure Tenancies (Victims of Domestic Abuse) Bill has received a second reading in the House of Lords. The Bill makes provision about the granting of old-style secure tenancies in cases of domestic abuse. The government had made a commitment that when local authorities moved to fixed-term tenancies in the future it would ensure that the regulations which specify when local authorities may grant a further lifetime tenancy would make this mandatory for victims of domestic abuse.
