Helicopter seized and sold in Akhmedova divorce case

First inroads made on £450 million award

Tatiana Akhmedova, the former wife of Farkhad Akhmedov, a Russian billionaire, has secured the sale of a £4.5 million helicopter owned by her husband. The sum is the first recovered by Ms Akhmedova in partial settlement of an award of over £450 million made by the High Court in financial remedy proceedings arising from the couple's divorce.

In the financial remedy proceedings, originally reported as AAZ v BBZ [2016] EWHC 3234 (Fam), Mr Justice Haddon-Cave granted Ms Akhmedova £350m, plus £2.5m chattels, a car and a valuable modern art collection.

Henry Hood, Partner and Head of the Family department at Hunters Solicitors, commented:

"The possibility that the many rigorous orders of Haddon Cave J might be worth no more than the paper they are written on is at least laid to rest – although there is a long way to go to make significant inroads into the award. The proceeds of the helicopter may give new vigour to the attempt, as well as paying a few costs which will probably also help."
