Thirteen apply online for divorce on Christmas Day

455 online divorce applications received over Christmas period

Four hundred and fifty-five online divorce applications were received by HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day – including thirteen submitted on Christmas Day.

The latest figures from the Ministry of Justice reveal that more than 23,000 applications have been made since Divorce Online was launched in April 2018.

Justice Minister Lucy Frazer said:

"These online services are already making a difference to people who use the justice system.

"As we reach this milestone it's encouraging to see people are reporting these services work well for them and are a better-fit around their busy lives."

HMCTS reports that public feedback concerning the online service has been positive with 85 per cent of people expressing their satisfaction with the service. The time taken to complete a divorce application has reduced by more than half an hour on average.

More than 150,000 people have used one or more of the online justice services in the past 12 months taking the total number to over 300,000 in the past four years.
