Mental Capacity (Amendment) Act 2019 becomes law

The Mental Capacity (Amendment) Act 2019 received Royal Assent on 16 May and became law on that day.

The Act amends the Mental Capacity Act 2005 in relation to procedures in accordance with which a person may be deprived of liberty where the person lacks capacity to consent.

Whilst certain enabling provisions come into force immediately, the substance of the Act will come into force on whatever day the Secretary of State appoints by regulations.
