Law banning triple talaq challenged in Indian courts

Legislation in India which makes the practice of instant divorce through 'triple talaq' among Muslims a punishable offence has been challenged in the Indian Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court.

The petition in the Supreme Court was submitted by a Kerala-based Muslim organisation, while that in the Delhi High Court was filed by an advocate. Both claim that the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act 2019 breaches the fundamental rights of Muslim husbands.
