New SRA Standards and Regulations now in force

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Standards and Regulations have replaced the SRA Handbook from 25 November 2019.

The SRA says that new rules are shorter and less prescriptive. The SRA believes that this will offer solicitors greater flexibility. Consequently, in the opinion of the SRA, solicitors will need to use greater professional judgement to ensure compliance to the SRA.

The Standards and Regulations are underpinned by the SRA's enforcement strategy and there is a duty upon solicitors to report serious concerns or breaches of the Codes of Conduct promptly.
