New care applications received by Cafcass fell 9 per cent in November

Cafcass received a total of 1,095 (involving 1,698 children) new care applications in November – 107 applications (8.9 per cent) fewer than in the same month last year. Cafcass received 8,898 new care applications between April and November 2019 – 505 (5.4 per cent) fewer than the same period in 2018. These cases involved 14,363 children – 1,095 (7.1 per cent) fewer than April to November 2018.

Between April 2019 and November 2019 Cafcass received a total of 12,395 new public law cases featuring 19,959 children; this represents a decrease of 1.6 per cent (207 public law cases) and a decrease of 4.6 per cent (964 children).
