Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Bill receives first reading

The first reading of the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Bill took place on 7 January. The Bill was first introduced in June 2019 after a public consultation and is being brought before Parliament again following the General Election.

The first reading stage is a formality that signals the start of the Bill's journey through the House of Lords. The second reading – the general debate on all aspects of the Bill – is yet to be scheduled.
