Joint call for Judge Tolson's continuing cases to be reviewed

130 lawyers and women's rights groups sign joint letter

A letter addressed to Justice Secretary Robert Buckland and the family courts president, Sir Andrew McFarlane, has called for Judge Tolson's continuing cases to be reviewed after one of his cases was overturned last month following his comments on rape.

The letter is signed by Rape Crisis England and Wales, Women's Aid and the Centre for Women's Justice amongst others, states that "Increasingly, the courts are no longer seen as a safe place for women who have been abused." and that Tolson's views, "leave children and women at risk of serious harm".

Similar training given to crinimal judges regarding sexual assault will be given to familly law judges dealing with domestic abuse cases starting from May 2020.

The letter was delivered to the Victoria Derbyshire Show and more details can be found on the BBC website.
