Supreme Court refuses permission to appeal in case of Archie Battersbee
On 28 July 2022 the Supreme Court received an urgent application for Permission to Appeal from the parents of Archie Battersbee. Archie's parents sought a stay of the Court of Appeal's decision to allow withdrawal of life-support treatment.
The Supreme Court convened a panel of three Justices, who considered submissions from the parties on the papers. Ultimately, after considering the judgment of the Court of Appeal delivered by Sir Andrew MacFarlane, the panel refused permission to appeal to the Supreme Court.
The reasons for the decision can be found here.
