Compensation for couple whose children were wrongfully removed

Couple awarded undisclosed damages by local authority of children were taken into care as a result of incorrect medical evidence

A couple from Wales have been awarded an undisclosed sum by Newport County Council after their three children were wrongly taken into care for fear that the father was sexually abusing his daughter.

The children were taken into care when two doctors both confirmed that the daughter had been subjected to long-standing sexual abuse but by an adult, and not an 11 year old boy as had been suspected by the family. These medical findings were overturned on the evidence provided by a third expert, based in the US, and the council conceded that the children should not have been removed from the family. Accordng to the report in The Times, the settlement was reached at the High Court just before Christmas.
