Divorce Online claims to have 5% of divorce market

DIY divorce company claims sharp increase in market share

Divorce Online, one of the first online DIY divorce services, claims to have handled 5% of divorces in the first quarter of 2009. They claim that is up from 3.5% in 2007 and that the number of unrepresented divorces they handle accounts for 25% of that market.

While many observers would think that it is the recession driving the move to DIY divorce, Mark Keenan, the Managing Director of the company, highlights other factors.

‘I think the growth in cost-comparison websites has made people think twice before spending money on anything. Divorcing couples are looking for more affordable and cost-effective solutions, and the big difference between and traditional divorces using solicitors, is that our costs are clearly outlined upfront.’
