President warns against rush to widen media access

Comments made at conference

The Times has reported that Sir Mark Potter has expressed concern over proposed new rules seeking to widen further media access to the family courts.

Changes are expected to be announced in the Queens' Speech but Sir Mark warned that it would be “highly undesirable” to implement further reform and  produce “stopgap rules which have received so little support”. He also commented that the judiciary had already expressed doubts as to whether children can be sufficiently protected.
